Full Moon Tibetan Singing Bowl

The full moon singing bowl, made under the direct light of the full moon once a month, is the most extraordinary Tibetan singing bowl ever made. It is a masterpiece created by master Santa Ratna Shakya of Nepal. He invented this full moon bowl, or lunar bowl, after many years of refining the skills passed down from his ancestors and conducting many experiments in his own bowl foundry in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal.

Exceptional manufacturing technique with high quality alloy and recognized knowledge to adjust and refine the bowl makes it the most sought after singing bowl therapy tool ever designed. The full moon singing bowl is lightweight and emits a rich, deep note texture and strong vibration that lasts for a long time at a constant pitch. This is an important factor for a singing bowl therapist as it gives him/her complete control over the resonance and vibration for a highly effective therapy.

An alloy refined from high quality metals, rigorously pure and non-recycled, is the central pillar of the elaboration of a full moon singing bowl. It gets its name from the way it is made under the direct light of a fully exposed moon and a clear sky. In the event that the full moon night becomes cloudy, the work is postponed for the following month, its production is therefore governed by the course of nature and the cosmic cycle. This makes the full moon singing bowl not only special in its craftsmanship, but also charged with lunar energy.

The workers who make this bowl start the evening by first purifying their bodies and calming their minds. They cut their nails, take baths, wear clean clothes and sit relaxed together. Once everyone is ready, a traditional ritual called Puja is performed to pray for the honor of creating the full moon bowls. As the moon rises and begins to move across the starry sky, the workers begin heating the alloy in the furnace. The meticulously balanced rhythm of the artisans as they take the still liquid alloy out of the furnace and pour it onto the clay model and hammer it into the shape of a bowl. The only sound you hear is the “clink clank clink clank” of hand hammers and the loud silence of the moonlit night broken by the occasional cries of nocturnal birds and barking of dogs in the valley below.

Less than a year after its production, despite a high production cost compared to other bowls, the Full Moon singing bowl has been around the world. Now, it is the most sought-after bowl for anyone who intends to undergo singing bowl therapy and practice professionally.

 Full Moon Tibetan Bowls

Chakras, Santa version

The vast majority of therapists rely on musical notes to identify the corresponding chakra:

  • Do (C): Root Chakra
  • D: Sacral Chakra
  • Mi (E): Solar Plexus Chakra
  • Fa (F): Heart Chakra
  • Sol (G): George Chakra
  • The (A): 3rd Eye Chakra
  • If (B): Crown Chakra

The therapy using full moon bowls is based on an attribution of chakras in a very different way. Indeed, it is based on the "Armor" used in music theory. The attribution of chakras follows the order of sharps, by ascending fifths. We obtain the following composition sorted in the order of musical notes:

  • Do (C): Sacral Chakra
  • D: Heart Chakra
  • Mi (E): 3rd Eye Chakra
  • Fa (F): Root Chakra
  • Ground (G): Solar Plexus Chakra
  • The (A): Chakra George
  • If (B): Crown Chakra

This approach is widespread throughout Nepal (and Asia) and used by all Nepalese therapists ( Santa Ratna Shakya , Shree Krishna Shahi , Aman Shahi , Sajan Thapaliya ). Find the complete information on our dedicated page Which notes and frequencies to use for the chakras .

Tibetan singing bowl OM Sajan

In the lineage of the Full Moon bowl, the OM bowl is also an exceptional bowl. Created by the Nepalese master sound therapist Sajan Thapaliya , this bowl is primarily intended for professionals. Also composed of 7 metals, it stands out with different ratios allowing the alloy to be softened and giving it an exceptional harmonic richness mixing bass and treble. The depth of note is remarkable and easily rivals the Full moon.

OM SAJAN Black Edition

Sajan also offers the OM bowl in black version. This bowl has the particularity of being twice as thick on the edges (called "Jhumka batti"). This thickness allows the bowl to keep a clear sound while having power and an exceptional note length. It is almost the only bowl that offers the possibility of working the treble while having the power and note length.

Composition of Tibetan bowls

Tibetan singing bowls are made from an alloy mainly composed of copper and tin. This alloy is composed of the following 7 metals:

  • Copper Cu about 80%
  • Tin Sn about 20%
  • Iron Fe about 0.12%
  • Lead Pb about 0.05%
  • Zinc Zn about 0.01%
  • Silver Ag about 0.001%
  • Or Au about 0.001%

Mercury can also be used for the purpose of cleaning other metals but is not present in the final composition of the bowl.

The percentages mentioned above are variable since the casting of metals is mostly done without precise measurement. There may also be significant variations depending on the shape of the bowl.

These 7 metals also have the following symbolic representation:

  • Gold for the Sun
  • Money for Moon
  • Copper for Venus
  • Iron for Mars
  • Tin for Jupiter
  • Lead for Saturn
